First SEFSD visit of 2017, 3/18/17

I finally got around to flying at the AMA club I belong to, the Silent Electric Flyers of San Diego, located next to SeaWorld.

I brought out my P51 mustang and Vortex for an afternoon of flying fun!  It was windy (as usual on the afternoons here), while I can fly the P51, I'm usually just keeping the plane in the air and not crashing vs having fun flyin around. The wind also makes it challenging to land!

The Vortex was a blast to fly!  Wind? What wind?!  This thing just punches though the air with no care!  There's also so much room to fly around!

Close up of my P51 flying by!  I need to get out here one day and fly while the wind is calm.

BTW, I still like flying helis!

Lately my blog has been dominated by my quads. I still like to fly helis though!  And planes for that matter!  But when I started this blog all I flew were helis. Thus, the title of my blog. Lol!

I'm working on getting my 230s back up and flying, but now with night flying capability!  I also need to install the electronics in my Goblin 650. I have everything I need, but haven't gotten around to working on it!  I want to have it flying before spring comes around though :)

A real Tiny Whoop?!?

I finally decided to build an actual custom Tiny Whoop Quad vs my modded BNF  FPV Blade Inductrix!

My Tiny Whoop (left) has the clear stock Inductrix frame, blue Blade quad props, Newbee Drone 19,000 kv motors, Beebrain FC, 3D printed light gray camera mount, and a Spektum VA1100 camera. The Beebrain is running Betaflight with Mr Steele's PIDs.

My other Tiny Whoop started out as a BNF FPV Blade Inductrix. It now has a black E010 frame, green Blade quad props, Furious 17,300 kv motors, Inductrix FC, camera mount, and camera.

I haven't flown the Beebrain Whoop much yet, as I'm waiting for my friend to solder the camera power leads to the board.

New 3D printed parts!

A coworker of mine, who has his own 3D printer, was nice enough to print some parts for me in black ABS.

He printed a bumper scoop, landing feet, and a PDB dust shield for my Vortex, and some camera mounts for my Tiny Whoops :)

Now I'm thinking of getting my own 3D printer!  I found a nice RTP model for about $1K. I might be picking this up very soon!  Lol!

New goggle receiver and antennas!

I picked up a Furious FPV TrueD v2.0 diversity receiver, VAS Madmushroom/Airscrew CP antennas, and TrueRC X-Air patch antenna, for my Fatshark Dominator HD3 FPV goggles!

Liking this combo so far!  I need a 45deg SMA adapter though. Lol!

GoPro Hero 960 mounted!

I managed to mount my old GoPro 960 camera on my Vortex!  Now I should be able to get some HD video during my flights!  I test hovered it and I can barely feel the extra weight while flying around :). So much power my Vortex has!  Lol!
